If this reminds you a little of the Rocky Horror Picture Show then yes, you've won the prize of being awesome.

A belated birthday gift. Happy birthday, Arthur. I didn't forget. It's small and it sucks, but I don't have much of a drive for these two. Next present, maybe it'll be -- secret!

Something quick. The only thing you need to know is that "Te deseo" means "I desire you".

They mix like water and oil, like cats and dogs. )

Title: Rain is a Lullaby
Characters: England, Spain

Once more set in the Alpujarran Mountains. I think it feels more relaxed without capitalization. Also, human names. Probably slight OOC? There's a block for both of them for me.

Title: Simple Chemistry
Characters: Spain, England, France
Rating: G

The Alpujarran Mountains are located in Andalucía. A lot of foreigners move there to buy farms and relax and have a nice time. Most notably, the British. It's really more famous for its sheep than anything else, since it makes pretty nice wool and yarn. If you want to learn more about it, I'd suggest Driving Over Lemons by Chris Stewart. And uh, this was based on the prompt 'neutralisation' at 30smiles on LJ. It ended up having nothing to do with that.

Written for LJ's hetalia_contest, since it was restarted this week, with the prompt 'midnight'.

Arthur wakes up at midnight the the feeling of fingers trailing down his exposed back and whispers of endearment in a foreign language. )

Title: 17th Century Men
Characters: France, England
Rating: PG

This is one of those 'this cost me too much research time' stories. Okay, so the umbrella has been around since forever, but it wasn't made popular in England and France until the 17th century. In fact, it wasn't exactly popular in England until around the mid-18th and 19th centuries because they relied more on their cloaks than the gaudy umbrella, which the French favored. It started in China and made its way to Europe, so that's that. The clock mentioned in the story is the 'pendulum clock', which was a style of clock that started to appear around the mid-17th century. And of course, the reference to the smell of sewage is the fact they did not have proper cleaning industries, even in France.

“We do not all have the pleasure of having giant caterpillars on our face to fashion cloaks out of, cher.” )

Title: Bubble Blowing
Characters: France, England
Rating: PG

Bubble blowing has been around for a while. The first documentation of it was by a Flemish painter in the 17th century, however. He painted a picture of children blowing clay pipes with bubbles coming out of them.

The first time he blows the clay pipe and sees the strange, luminescent bubbles that fly out is the one time in his life as a growing empire England feels like a kid again. )

All of these shorts are based off of Lithuanian superstition. If you want to know them more, and get a better laugh, look here first. Also, Poland blowing his fingers is a Polish superstition, and it's supposed to bring you good luck.

Characters: Spain, England
Rating: PG-13

A cool note - the first three sentences are from Ernest Hemingway's The Fifth Column, from the first Act, and are spoken between Preston and Dorothy. Presen is the first one, and Dorothy speaks the second two.

It's nighttime, a pretty summer night, with fireflies and stars and a waning moon, green grass faded to the dark shades of navy only penetrated by the lightning bug's cool touch when they rest and flicker their lights, call for a mate and wait for an answer. )

For 64damn_prompts' prompt 'turpentine kisses and mistaken blows'. This turned out longer than it should've been. I blame lack of food. Also, while Spain and England were fastly deteriorating political-wise, England's people were learning more about Spanish culture. Must've been a headache.

It's a whirl of turpentine kisses and mistaken blows – kisses that taste like poison and blows that hit air rather than bodies, mashing together and drawing red lines that sting as soon as the cool salt breeze hits them – and neither bother to correct it, hidden away in the crow's nest of the swaying ship, stars above them and sea below. )

Title: Freedom Makes Anything Look Beautiful
Characters: Belgium, England, mucho mentions of the Netherlands
Rating: G

On October 4th, 1830, Belgium declared independence from the Netherlands and met with the six great powers of that time in London to discuss the terms of her independence and to draw up a treaty. On June 4th, 1831, Prince Leopold I was crowned the first King of the Belgians, as England saw no quarrels with him (he was married to Princess Charlotte, the only daughter of George IV). The first treaty, the Treaty of the XXIV Articles, was rejected by the Netherlands, and it was the Treaty of London that was signed by Belgium and the Netherlands on April 19th, 1839, that recognized her independence and neutrality at long last. The six major powers of the time were Prussia, England, France, the Netherlands, Austria, and Russia.

It's drizzling when Belgium arrives in London, shaking from walking from coast to ship to coast again, and she's greeted by a familiar face, serious and strained from holding back a smile. )
