Title: Lithuania's Crockpot of Superstitions
Characters: Poland, Lithuania, America
Rating: G

All of these shorts are based off of Lithuanian superstition. If you want to know them more, and get a better laugh, look here first. Also, Poland blowing his fingers is a Polish superstition, and it's supposed to bring you good luck.

The first time Poland spends Christmas with Lithuania, it is the first year of the Polish-Lithuanian Union and their bosses and keepers are there as well. Poland fingers the table nervously, and furrows his eyebrows when he feels straw. Lithuania stands and looks at the happy faces, then laughs.

“There are straws underneath your place at the table. Draw them and let's see their length!”

Poland doesn't bother looking at everyone else's – he just pulls his out and frowns.

“Like, Liet, mine's really, really short.”

Lithuania goes as white as snow and falls out of his chair in an unexpected swoon.

It's more than a few centuries when Poland spends Christmas with Lithuania again, and while he doesn't try the straw trick again, he mentions an old superstition in passing with a bottle of Krupnika.

“If you write every name you know on a pieces of paper and stick them under your pillow before you sleep, when you wake up and pick out one, it'll be the name of your betrothed.”

Poland almost screams himself hoarse when he pulls 'Prussia' out from under his pillow.

One night, Poland breaks a mirror by accident and finds himself picking up the pieces and gluing them back into the frame. Lithuania almost chokes on his water in the morning when he sees Poland grooming himself in front of the broken mirror.

Lithuania decides not to tell Poland that looking into a broken mirror loses you your beauty, and is stunningly rewarded by Poland screaming and running into the kitchen later that day, complaining of crow's feet.

**

One night, Poland steals Lithuania's candle and lets the hot wax pour into a small bowl of cold water.

When it cools, he squints in the darkness and tries to make out the shape. He asks Lithuania in the morning, and almost freaks out when Lithuania looks at it carefully and frowns.

“It's in the shape of an cat.”

To which Poland pales and blows on the tips of his fingers.

**

Poland steps in dog crap one minute and spends the rest of the hour ranting about it to Lithuania. Lithuania smiles and tells him it means he'll be rich.

Poland spends the rest of the afternoon jumping into piles of poop and looking for money.

**

When Poland greets Lithuania at the same time he does, he finds himself locking pinkies with him and Lithuania nudging him.

“Make a wish, and then say either Adomas or Iewa, and if we both say the same word at the same time, our wishes will come true.”

Lithuania wishes for another vacation. Poland wishes for a new pair of jeans because the ones he has at home are getting all ratty-tatty.

“Iewa!”

“Adomas!”

There's an awkward pause, and Poland puts one hand on his hip and tilts to the left.

“So, like... what happens next, now that we didn't, like, say the same word?”

Lithuania's worried smile is all he needs to know.

One day, America starts to whistle while helping Lithuania with the dishes, and is rewarded with a plate 'accidentally' breaking across his head. Lithuania promptly apologizes, with his fingers crossed behind his back.
