Title: Drunkard's Lullaby
Characters: Spain, England
Rating: PG

He's not sure why he agrees to go out drinking. He agrees to go, though, and as soon as the meeting's done and they're finished pressing their ears against the doors with the rest of the nations who liked to eavesdrop on their bosses they head out. Spain laughs, slings his jacket over his shoulder, and chats animatedly to fill the awkward silence that was bound to come if sound ceased. England sighs, runs his hand through his hair, and makes comments when necessary.

It's better when they arrive at the cozy pub - Spain chuckles as he reads the name 'The Unicorn' - and the feeling of light conversation is in the air. They settle at a table, order a few rounds, and silence over takes them as they merely drink and study each other.

Small talk gets easier after the first few drinks. As soon as they get onto the still tender (for the both of them) subject of an empire and having young colonies, England starts to cry. Spain, still not drunk out of his mind for all the small sips he'd been taking, stiffens and sighs. He's benevolent enough to throw an arm around the shaking man, pull him close, and whisper comforts of the night while rocking him back and forth.

England falls asleep and is heaved up and given a piggyback ride home. Spain sighs as he goes through these motions - how often he used to do it with his little niƱos! - and glances back tiredly at the drunkard.

The smelly Brit wasn't so bad when he wasn't jumping at his throat.
