Title: Cooking Fun
Characters: Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Romano
Rating: G

A little birthday gift for my friend, who is as much a Belgiumfag as me. ♥ Happy birthday, Minni!

When Spain cooks, humming cheerfully and stirring the food and taking it out of the firebrick oven and poking the fire, Belgium watches, quiet and leaning against the doorway with a platter against her chest and the smell of food drawing her in. Spain doesn’t always notice her but when he dose, he frowns slightly and asks if she’s done her chores; she just nods and grips the silver platter tighter.

Spain makes a small sigh and turns back to work, and Belgium peeks over his shoulder and asks, in a quiet voice, if she could help. He doesn’t answer for a bit, prompting her to step back and turn to leave, but he chuckles and waves her over with a hand.

“Sure. Why not? Here, get that out of the fire before it burns.”

And so she becomes his personal assistant, as long as she’s finished with her chores before dinner, and cooks and helps him, laughs and chats and doesn’t notice her brother hovering just outside of the doorway, frowning at the scene and turning on his heel to do more important things. His sister was a waste of time anyways (though he wouldn’t complain about wasting time if it meant time spent with her).

Romano helps too, sometimes, when not being teased at and not being asleep. He’s their taster, but since he always picks Belgium’s stuff to eat, Spain says he was biased to pretty ladies. The child never accepts nor rejects this claim, but chooses to just eat and blush furiously when Belgium laughs about a healthy appetite and pokes his sides in jest.

It’s a simple, idyllic family, and cooking is the only time she speaks to Spain as an equal, not as someone who is higher than her, and she confesses her thoughts and feelings while he listens and nods thoughtfully, makes paella and smiles to cheer her up.

“It isn’t so bad since he left, right? Your brother was a jerk anyways.”

“Sure he was, but he was my jerk.”
