Title: this isn't how it's supposed to end
Characters: Spain, England
Rating: PG
It’s all so wrong.
It’s wrong because they’re kissing, because they’re whispering apologies and, somewhere deep inside of him, he’s thankful. It’s wrong because he hates the man in front of him, hates the man who seduces him and laughs in his ear, hates the man who clasps the irons around his wrists and blindfolds him. He hates the man who presses tender kisses, hates him for going back on both their religions, hates him for praying into his skin, hates him for speaking in that language (and knowing he knows it fluently), hates him, hates him, hates him.
Arthur hates Antonio, and the only thing that prevents him from confessing this truth is the pair of lips pressing against his.
It’s all so wrong.
It’s wrong because they’re kissing, because they’re whispering apologies and, somewhere deep inside of him, he hates this. It’s wrong because he loves the man in front of him, loves the man who hates him and sneers at him, loves the man who shows no fear yet is tricked so easily into showing emotion by the simple words of a lover. He loves the man who snarls and struggles, loves him for acting like the dog he is, loves him for the rough treatment that leaves bruises and marks, loves him for making him sin and prayer for forgiveness at every kiss and touch and fevered wish, loves him for knowing his language and never admitting it, loves him, loves him, loves him.
Antonio loves Arthur, and he confesses this in kiss and in touches, drawing letters on the exposed midriff and murmuring them against his shoulder.
It’s all so wrong.
It’s wrong because it shouldn’t be this way. They should be in love and should be kinsmen, should be equals and lovers and be married again, should be able to be seen together without remark or hate or fear or anything negative. Antonio shouldn’t kiss and make love to an Arthur who hates him, who despises him and everything he stands for.
But he does, and that’s why it’s so wrong to Arthur, because Antonio should hate him as much as he hates him, because Antonio should want to fight and kill, because Antonio should want to give up and should want to come back with vengeance. He shouldn’t whisper sweet nothings to someone who hates him, who wants him dead, but he does.
It’s all so wrong.
