Whenever they're alone, Spain presses his lips to England's knuckles and kisses every one of them, brushes his tongue against the rough callouses that have began to appear, lets his hand drop to the thin waist and squeeze slightly. England is always startled (even when he knows it's coming) and jerks away after a moment, holding his hand like it's been burned and unhooking the tight fingers at his hip to move away, and mouths 'No' to the faltering nation.

Spain continues his advances, so sure he'll be able to win England back – after all, if not by diplomacy or war then perhaps carnal pleasure – and England backs from every one, wanting nothing and everything to do with Spain. It often ends with England laying against the headboard, blankets bunched around his waist, watching the sleeping figure beside him (who looked so peaceful, so content, so different than during the day where the sharp light coloured the warm depths in anger and falsified hatred) and wondering if he could stay without repercussion.

He leaves, of course.
