Title: "secret city of people"
Characters: Spada Belforma, Luca Milda, Hermana Larmo
Rating: G
119/365. dumbshit highschool au.
It's the underground of Regnum where they find the heart of the city; the people shouting and laughing, grinding to the beat of some music farther down the tunnels or sitting around small fires, chatting in low voices. They aren't Luca's type of people, but Spada seems at home and cajoles with a few of them, slipping through the crowd like a creek snaking through a forest of rocks, all while holding Luca's hand and guiding him. They land themselves a small niche about half a mile down the tunnel (Luca's tired and sweaty and he feels as if he reeks as bad as the sewers they're in) at a fire with a girl a few years younger than them. He catches her name after a few lines of conversation (Hermana) and stays quiet, feeling invisible; he might as well be, for all the attention Spada's given him since they sat down with her, despite still holding hands.
Hermana seems to notice him when he shifts closer to the fire and she nods at him, a smile on her lips. "This yer boyfriend, Spud?"
Spada glances back, as if suddenly remembering Luca was, in fact here, and lets go of his hand, holding it uncomfortably close to the fire. "What kinda impression you got from me, Her? He's one of my boys up on the surface world.
"Hey," Luca jumps when Spada addresses him and tilts his head, nodding when Spada jerks his head back at Hermana and sighs, "introduce yoursef, man. Ain't nice to keep a lady waiting on your name."
"Luca Milda," he says without thinking, then blushes when Hermana laughs and leans back. "We doin' last names too? Hermana Larmo, at yer service. What's a good-lookin' guy like ya doin' hangin' around Spud?"
"And what's that supposed t'mean, Her?" Spada frowns at her over the fire, pushing his hand closer to feel the lick of the flames. Hermana grins wider and shrugs, stretching. "Who knows? He just don' look like the type to hang around with someone like ya."
Spada rolls his eyes and stands, looking back up the tunnel and nudging Luca with his knee. "I'm gonna grab some food, aight? You just stay here with Hermana." He pauses, then chuckles. "And don't let her ask you too many questions."
Luca watches him leave, drawing his knees up to his chest and only turning his attention to the girl across from him once he's retreated too far into the shadows to follow. Hermana's grin fades into a smile, but it's still incredibly amused at something he doesn't know. She lays on her side and yawns dramatically, stretching again, and Luca bites his lip, resisting the urge to twist his hair around his finger. It's quiet for a long while, almost too long of one; he's beginning to think something's wrong with Hermana props her chin on her palm and says four words he though he'd never hear.
"You interested in Spud?"
