luca winces as spada transforms back into his usual form (he’s not sure he’ll ever get used to feeling the cold, black metal of the broadsword turn into the warm, calloused hand of his partner) and catches the soul between his fingers, giving it a look before crushing it in his fist and grinning as the power seeps into him. luca stretches and looks at the sky - dark and cloudy and moonless - and yawns, rubbing his eyes. it had been a tough battle, but they had won, and he feels spada watching him. the fatigue must be contagious, because spada slumps against the wall and closes his eyes. their trip back to the apartment is without incident, and luca marks down another tally of souls - fifty-nine now, and only forty more until they had to hunt a witch - as soon as he’s in the door. spada pushes him away from the notebook by the entrance and they both go tumbling to the floor.
