Title: breaking through the encirclement
Characters: Luca Milda, Chitose Cxarma, Mathias
Rating: G

70/365. AU where Luca joins Arca when it first starts out.

Chitose returns two and a half weeks later, a little sour. Luca shows her to her room and introduces her to Chien and his brothers, Cer and Ber; she politely speaks with them for a while before retiring to bed. Lady Mathias speaks with her later that evening, and gathers them in her audience hall.

"This young woman was Sakuya in her past life. Luca, you would know her as the woman who stayed by your side ever faithfully."

Luca frowns at this new information, leaning back on his heels and stretching his arms behind his head. He shakes head slowly, wincing when Lady Mathias sighs and turns to Chitose.

"Spend as much time with him as you can manage, Chitose," she instructs. Chitose nods and bows quietly, taking Luca's hand into her own and walking with him down the steps. Chien stays behind, wanting to leave with them. Luca gives him a small wave as he disappears out of sight and sighs.

"Are you sure you don't remember anything, Luca?" Chitose asks, drawing his attention back to her. He nods, furrowing his brow and rubbing his chin.

"I'm sorry, Chitose. You seem really important though. I'm sure I'll remember soon." That makes her smile, and Luca realizes she's a lot cuter when she's happy. Her look immediately sours when he asks her about the other two Avatars who had been in the cell with her, however.

"Iria Animi and Spada Belforma, you mean?" Luca nods, opening the door of his room and letting her settle on the bed. She folds her hands on her lap and watches the wall opposite of her; there's a strange intensity in her eyes, and it scares Luca somewhat. "I have a bad feeling about Iria Animi. The other boy, not so much. They seemed to get along quite well, however. That girl even mentioned you when she was explaining her situation." A pause. "I do not think you would do a show of power such as the one she described, however."

"That wasn't my idea," he admits. "The rest of the group did it while I was asleep... I'm a really terrible leader... Sometimes, I wonder if I'm truly Asura..."

"Asura?" Chitose leans forward suddenly, taking his hands. "You are Lord Asura?"

"I... Yes, I am."

"I have been looking for you. I am truly thankful you have been reincarnated and are in Arca as well." She presses her lips to his knuckles and he blushes, fighting back the urge to draw his hand away. What was it about her that made him feel so flighty? "As Sakuya, I was an advisor to Asura and his most loyal subject."

"Thank you, Chitose," and his voice is soft, too soft, so he clears his throat and tries to firm it up. "I truly hope I can remember more about Sakuya soon. I'm sure she was a wonderful woman to have around."

"And she would have been better for Asura," she adds, and Luca doesn't reply. Shortly after, she bids him good night and takes leave of him; he's left alone with his thoughts, sitting by the window of his room and watching the desert wasteland below. As much as he was supposed to hate Inanna - as much as Lady Mathias told him to, and that she had betrayed him although she could not say just how, for 'he would have to remember it himself' - he just thinks of her beauty and closes his eyes, trying to match the refined grace to the rough and tumble girl from Sania Village. Luca wonders if he'll ever see her again.

He doesn't have to wonder for long. A messenger comes to him with an order to depart for Regnum at once, and he feels sick as he nods and begins to gather his things. He hadn't been there in years; how much had changed? Were his parents still living in the same house? Did they have a new child? Did they hate him?

The last question hurts him the most; he had surely ruined the Milda reputation after awakening as Asura, and he couldn't blame them if they did. The ride to Regnum is long and painful - he takes his time getting there, dreading every hoofbeat - and he uncharacteristically hides his face with a hat, letting the wide brim shadow his features as he passes through the streets. He listens to the people talk - a Fallen had been rescued from one of the rehabilitation centers, they whisper, and he wonders if it's the fault of those two he saw at Regnum's - and stays in the city, despite the risk of someone he knows seeing him.

His patience is happily rewarded; Chien arrives two days later, sent to investigate the caverns underneath Regnum, and he gets to relax with the younger boy and his two dogs. He treats him to Regnum's nicest - that he can afford, anyway - and receives information in return: A group of Fallen were heading this way, evidently looking for things called "memory circles," the same as them. Luca thanks him for it and sends him on his way, settling back down at the inn and watching for the group.

Four days later, the group arrives and takes a room at the same inn he's decided to stay in. Luca sighs and prepares himself to talk to at least one of them - and hopefully not that Iria girl.
