Title: creation of heaven and earth
Characters: Luca Milda, Chitose Cxarma
Rating: G

69/365. AU where Luca joins Arca when it first starts out.

Lady Mathias forgives him for the failure, but doesn't send him out on a mission again immediately, unlike the others. He sits in his room for weeks, reading instead; it's an old habit from his old life that he's never quite given up, and certainly wouldn't want to, if asked about it. He spends his time imagining if he hadn't been Asura and had been a prince instead, or a knight; he thinks of being a farmer, sowing seeds and taking care of animals. He imagines every possibility except being a god unfortunately reborn as a human, eyes closed and thumbing through the pages he knows by heart. He doesn't even have to read them to know the words; he mouths them as he remembers them as well as the illustrations that dot the novels, the images of witches being burned or princesses sitting in tall, lonely towers.

Maybe he wouldn't want to be either of those, though; being a princess sounded awful, what with people trapping you or trying to kill you all the time just for being pretty, and witches--

He grimaces and shuts the book, sliding it back into place in the bookshelf by his bed. A witch hunt was already too much like what Avatars had to go through now. But, he reminds himself, that would all stop after Lady Mathias got the Manifest and activated it.

There's no room for witch hunts in a utopia, after all.

Two weeks later, Lady Mathias comes to him and gives him am ission, one he can't possibly fail: There is a girl wanting to join Arca who has been taken by the Compulsory Fallen Rehabilitation Program, and he's to inform her of what they stand for as well as assess her knowledge and which god she was. It's a little tiring, truth be told, but he's happy to be able to get out of the tower and return to making their Utopia a reality. He sets off that night, even, reaching Regnum's Rehabilitation Center in a few days courtesy of Lady Mathias. A few others travel with him as well, but they're lead off separate of him by some soldiers.

He wonders why, but finds his way to the holding cells, asking for directions when needed and giving information when required. He pauses as a guard calls two Avatars out of it - Iria Animi and Spada Belforma, and he recognizes the first name immediately from Sania and the latter-- the last name catches him, but he doesn't dwell on it and retrieves the last girl instead.

Her name is Chitose Cxarma, and she's interested in joining Arca simply because she is looking for someone who was hopefully reincarnated. It wouldn't hurt to be around others of her kind as well, and Luca smiles as he introduces himself and the doctrine of Arca. She's a lovely young woman, and - just like with Iria Animi - he knows her from somewhere, although he can't quite place it.

"Luca, would it be all right if I stayed to provide help for the others?"

Luca hesitates - Lady Mathias would certainly wish to see her soon; she had always been far better than him at discerning which Avatars were whom in their past lives - but nods, folding his arms behind his back quietly.

"Of course. Arca promotes volunteer work as part of its doctrine. It's a month's work, I think, so Lady Mathias will send someone to pick you up then. Arca's headquarters are established at the Tower of Dawn, if you'd like to come back earlier. Um... Thank you for joining Arca, Chitose. We appreciate it."

She smiles at him and he feels his face get hot; he bids her farewell one last time and leaves. Getting back to the tower is slower going; he doesn't use Lady Mathias's name for a faster ride, prefering to watch the rolling green landscapes - and the brilliant white of Regnum's walls - pass by him. He misses it sometimes-- well, more than sometimes. The desert was only pretty at night, when the stars blanketed the dark stretch of sky above it. It was pretty much a wasteland otherwise.

With a sigh, Luca opens up a book he already knows the story to and closes his eyes, leaning back against the seat of the carriage and thumbing through the pages he's read a hundred times, thinking of the story within. A knight who's lost his way, turned from good due to circumstances befalling his family...
