46/365. a short, original tale.
once upon a time, there lived a young girl who was prone to falling in love with everything she saw. one day she would be in love with a page; the next, a flower. no one could follow her flight or fancy, and she loved indiscriminately - even those with lovers would not, could not escape her eye. such ladies are well-liked among their peers, because of their kind, warm disposition, and they rarely seek confrontation due to it. now, this young girl (like any fanciful lady) liked to take walks and dream about that day's love as she did so, and today was no different. she wore a light blue dress with white trimmings, and she had her thick brown hair braided back with matching white ribbons. she was out to see the new boy who had arrived that morning (or so her mother had told her) and, as expected of this young girl, immediately fell in love with him. they met and chatted the day away, and when she went to sleep her mind was filled with thoughts of him.
when she awoke, nothing had changed; he was still the first thing that came to her mind, and she felt herself unnerved by it. 'perhaps i just need to clear my head,' she thought, for even she knew that being in love for more than a day was very odd among her fanciful kind, and set out on a walk. she met the boy again and curtsied, feeling her face warm up and a smile stretch across her lips, and they spent the rest of the day together. her heart pounded in the most exquisite way when he brushed against her by accident or spoke to her, and more than once she had to excuse herself to calm herself down. she began to fear he thought her mad, but didn't ask him if that was true (because it simply had to be).
the longer she stayed around him, the more she fell in love with him, and while both she and the village were happy at this turn of events it was not meant to be. one day, as they sat together and held hands, he asked for her advice concerning his girlfriend. this broke her heart so - that he had someone already- but she smiled through her tears and advised him the best she could. she took her leave of him right after that and cried into her pillow, both confused at why she felt so hurt and angry at herself for feeling such a way. 'why,' she thought, 'oh why did it have to be him i fell for! why not someone else, someone without a woman? why him?'
there was nothing to be done, however; the two were happy and she was happy for them, until the day she wasted away, alone and in her blankets, two weeks later.
