Title: night watch
Characters: Luca Milda, Spada Belforma
Rating: G

45/365.

Not for the first, and certainly not the last, time, Luca's woken up by someone shaking him. His head's swimming a little and he tries to focus on the figure in front of them, blinking blearily and wetting his lips. It's only Spada, he realizes, and sits up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and yawning a little.

“Is it my turn to stand watch?” He asks, frowning in confusion when Spada shakes his head and pulls him out anyway. They settle by the campfire, dimly lit embers flicking to life and stretching to the sky when disturbed with fresh wood, and Luca glances at Spada, chin propped up in his hand and elbow on his thigh. “Why'd you get me up then?”

“Just wanted a little company. Sides, there's more than enough of us to make for two people per watch.”

Luca shrugs and watches the fire, poking at it with a long stick and glancing at Spada out of the corner of his eye every so often. Spada's looking elsewhere – he's the one actually keeping watch, Luca thinks; he's the one actually keeping an eye out for danger, even if he seems relaxed, slouched on the ground beside him. It makes him droop a little and try to watch the darkness too, but his eyes can't quite adjust and he returns to keeping an eye on the fire and the other on Spada.

He jumps a little when Spada catches him once; he doesn't say anything about it, just quirks a little, but Luca feels embarrassment creep up his neck all the same.

“Don't know if you realize this, but you talk in your sleep.” That just doubles his embarrassment – did he really? - and Spada laughs at the look on his face. Luca reaches up to feel what it must look like, but ends up pressing his hands to his face in shame and peeking through his fingers after a moment's hesitation.

“D-Do I really?” Spada nods and Luca gulps nervously, closing his eyes slowly and opening them a second later, panic seizing him. “I-I don't say anything embarrassing, do I?
“Depends on what you count as embarrassin' I guess. You talk about Iria a lot.”

“I... I do?”

“Yeah. You mention the rest of us every so often, but it's usually Iria. And Asura, but I figure that's a given.”

Luca curls his fingers against his bottom lip, thinking and watching Spada without turning his head. Talking in his sleep isn't so bad – it gets him into less trouble than Hermana's sleepwalking, for sure, and the only people who hear it are the guys thanks to sleeping arrangements. And even then, if they're asleep like they should be, they wouldn't know –

“You don't watch me while I sleep, do you?”

“What kinda creep do you take me for!?” Luca winces and Spada softens his voice a little; his tone doesn't change one bit, but there's no sense in waking up the rest of the party when it's just him and Luca. “I ain't that way, man! I'm just up when you go to bed at nine like the pansy little bookworm you are and I hear you mutterin' and carryin' on over in the other bed.”

“Oh... Sorry.” Spada shrugs off the apology and Luca twiddles his thumbs, finally turning his mind to the actual idea of talking in his sleep. Maybe it isn't so bad, because it isn't walking and getting into trouble, but it's spilling secrets and it makes him blush and curl his feet inwards, mind racing through all of the – um, inappropriate dreams he's had. He can't remember half of them but there's always that sense of good, warm and not exactly soft but there in full, and Spada seems to guess what he's thinking about because he grins, all mischief and it makes Luca's ears burn in shock and mortification.

“Y-You won't tell anyone, right?” He manages to squeak out and Spada laughs, slinging an arm around his neck and pulling him close. He's not attracted to Spada in that way, but his breath on his ear sends pleasant shivers coursing down his body, along with a pinprick of fear. “Please?”

“Course not. Can't say that Kongwai and Ricardo'll hold to the same kinda standard as me, but you could ask them to keep quiet about it when you get back to bed.”

Luca groans softly and sinks back against Spada, covering his face again and drawing his knees up to his chest and pretending he can, in fact, disappear if he tries hard enough.
