Title: starry sky
Characters: Spada Belforma, Luca Milda
Rating: G
28/365.
One night, Spada catches Luca awake and watching the stars; it isn't his watch (it's Spada's) so he settles beside the bookworm and tells him so. Luca jumps a little, then pauses in though and shakes his head; he turns his eyes back to the sky and sighs, a little wistfully.
“I was just thinking... you can see more stars out here than you can in Regnum.”
Spada shrugs noncommittally – he hadn't been one for looking at the clouds, just for keeping his feet firmly on the ground – and Luca watches him from the corner of his eye. It's not unnerving in the least, but it at least prompts him to lean forward and prop his cheek on his palm, looking at the twinkling lights through his bangs.
“Yeah, I guess. You like lookin' at 'em?”
“I didn't do it often back home.” He twists his fingers into the grass and tilts his head back and to the side, hesitating when he feels it hang near Spada's shoulder and letting it rest there. Spada shifts to get more comfortable and waits for Luca to continue; there's never just one sentence about home with him, after all. As expected, after a moment, he does.
“I kind of wish I had. There aren't as many stars back home, but they're the ones my parents are looking at.” He pauses and looks at Spada through his eyelashes, a little frown, as if he's deciding whether or not to really ask. Spada quirks an eyebrow at him and he sighs, turning back to the stars. “Do you think they'd wish on shooting stars?”
It's the stupidest thing he's ever heard – okay, not the stupidest thing, but it's up there – and it makes him chuckle, wondering how he became friends with such a dumbass. Luca turns a little pink, a little indignant (and Spada can tell that by the way he tenses a little; he's never used to do it, but lately, as he's become infinitely more cozy with him, it happens more and more often, and Spada's a little proud of that) and he starts to say something. Spada interrupts that by nudging him with a grin and replying before he can say another word.
“Yeah, why not? If they're anythin' like you, I bet they do it every night.”
That seems to sate him a little; Luca smiles back at him and stands up. He glances back down at Spada gives him that small, worried frown he's been wearing more and more.
“I'm going to bed. Are you coming?”
“Nah, I got first watch this time, remember? You go on. I'll be there soon.”
Luca hesitates but nods, moving back towards the campfire. Spada watches him go, then looks at the stars and knows no one from his family is wishing on falling stars for him.
