Title: meetings
Characters: Luca Milda, Spada Belforma, Ange Serena
Rating: G
2/365. For some dumbshit high school au.
The first time he meets Spada Belforma is on his first day of school; he bumps into him and apologizes, and gets dragged behind the bleachers for a little fun for his troubles. That 'fun' happens to be introductions (Spada Belforma, a junior; Luca Milda, a sophomore) and skipping his first period class in favor of watching the girl's gym class run laps on the bright, summery morning. It's a friendly little time and while Luca regrets staying the next day when he doesn't know what they talked about the day before (Studies of Modern Economics evidently doesn't do that paperwork bull that every other class does at the beginning of the year; it jumps right into the learning, and Luca's lucky his father's taught him enough for him to go on).
The second time is after school, a month later, when Luca finds himself trapped by a couple of bullies. He wasn't aware they actually existed in high school (every movie had told of them, but he didn't think such accounts were real) and his snide comment, said under his breath but evidently heard by the leader, about maturity levels not matching their ages earns him a bloody nose – and one new best friend. Even though they hadn't spoken much since their first meeting (a few times in the hall they'd smile and say hi, a little cordial until Spada nudged against him as he passed) Spada's there in front of him in a flash, fists clenched. The bullies grin and glance at each other, and the leader steps closer to look down at Spada.
“This your new boyfriend, Belforma?”
His two companions laugh and Luca thinks he sees a tinge of red against Spada's green hair, right on the tips of his ears – but he's probably just fooling himself, especially with how the latter cracks his neck a little nonchalantly, as if to brush off the words.
“Nah, he's just a pal. I don't swing that way. Too bad for you, huh?”
The implication turns the leader beet red with fury and he slugs Spada – who does it right back. He's fast and graceful; after that first punch, nothing lands on him and when the three thugs bolt for it, Spada sighs and leans against the wall beside Luca. He wipes his lips and grimaces at the blood, then flinches a little when Luca runs his thumb across the split and sighs.
“It's not too bad.”
“Can't say the same about your nose. What'd the hell did you say to them?”
“I... just said that they acted more like kids than adults since bullies shouldn't exist past middle school...”
“Takes some balls to stand up to those guys. Guess you're not as much of a coward as I thought. C'mon, let's see the nurse.”
The nurse – one Ange Serena – evidently knows Spada well, because the second he steps in she asks him what sort of trouble he's gotten himself into and what poor soul did he drag in with him. Luca shyly introduces himself and she smiles warmly, like a mother, and gives an introduction back; she turns on Spada, though, and berates him. Spada replies with the whole story as she patches them up and when it's all said and done, she shakes her head and pets Luca's hair.
“My, you're brave. You must be quite the influence as well – Spada's never gotten himself beat up for a new kid before. He rarely even notices them their first day here. I wonder if he --”
“Thought church ladies didn't gossip. C'mon, Luca, you gotta get to class, right? I'll walk you. My room's that way anyhow.”
Luca wants to stay, just a little (wonder if he what?) but Spada takes his hand and out of the office, smiling politely to some administrators and sticking his tongue out at them when their back is turned. He drops Luca off at his class (whistling as he does so – “You a genius or somethin'?”) and heads down the hall. Luca doesn't stop watching him until he turns the corner; it's only then he allows himself to breathe easy and nervously knock twice on the classroom door.
