Title: Applaud
Characters: Eco, Belca
Rating: G

Modern!AU. I like the first phrase, can you tell?

As the curtain falls, the auditorium erupts into applause. Eco smiles and lets his fingers drift against the wood of the guitar, letting it wash over him like a warm rain. Belca watches from backstage; his voice is a whisper, and Eco has to strain to hear it over the hoots and hollers.

"You're really in your element, aren't you?"

Eco speaks a little louder than Belca; the mics are off anyways, and the crowd's too loud for their conversation to be overheard. As the auditorium fades into the whispers of students leave, though, it feels as if it's only just above a whisper; a testament to the fading thunder.

"I like singing, that's all."

Belca shrugs and moves closer, Eco's smile growing brighter with every step.

"Sounds like you."

An uneasy pause. His eyes unfocus, then refocus the second he blinks. Eco's in front of him now, clear as cut amethyst.

"Who was it about?"

"You really wanna know?"

They're less than a foot apart, now, and Belca hates that he has to tilt his head up even the slightest to look at Eco. Eco smiles, leans forward, (two thick beats), then breaks away, taking warm, chapped lips with him.

"It's a secret."

Another kiss, and Belca accidentally strums the guitar still hanging around the front; they both jump slightly, glance at the offended instrument, and Eco (only Eco, always Eco) laughs.

"Guitan doesn't want you so close!"

"-- You're the one who got so close!"

Belca turns away and pretends not to tense up when he feels arms encircle his chest and a chin on his shoulder. The line of warmth is gone a moment later as Eco carefully removes the guitar, then returns when he resumes his position. The stage and auditorium are quiet now, and it's a little eerie with half-dimmed lights and dust clouds drifting leisurely in the air. A little eerie, and definitely Eco-like; he's enjoying himself, if the happy-sounding sigh is anything to go by.

"You have class, right?"

His lips quirk when Belca shivers from the tickling of breath on his ear.

"You should go."

"Isn't that my line?"

Eco laughs at that, and it rings off the auditorium walls and the stage curtains. It echoes, for a moment, and Belca's almost afraid someone in the hall will hear and check in and see something like this happening. He almost expects it.

It never happens, and (after a third, final kiss - 'For good luck,' Eco explains) Belca heads off to class. Eco lingers in the dust-stained auditorium, then picks up his guitar and introduces himself to the strings teacher as his new assistant.
