Title: A Tale of Two Ribbons
Characters: Eco, Belca
Rating: G

Warning. Cute. Because I am a dumb shit. Two instances. May or may not be connected.

"Belca~"

He stirs at the entirely-too-cheerful-for-this-time-of-night voice and groans, shadowing his eyes from the suddenly too-bright room.

"What do you want, Eco? I'm trying to sleep."

"Would you undo my ribbon for me? Eco-tan's fingers are really sore from playing today."

That's a straight lie and Belca knows it; he doesn't want to argue tonight, though, tired as he is so he complies, sitting up just enough to grasp the red ribbon between his fingers and pull. Golden hair (as if spun from hay; that's how the story goes, right? Eco has never been and will never be in any fairytales of Belca's, so he drops the thought) ripples through his fingers as he combs them through it half-heartedly. After a entirely too long moment of spacing out he drops the ribbon into Eco's lap, lays back down, and sleeps.

"You do it yourself every day, Eco, you really don't need me to help."

Eco frowns a little and holds up his bandaged fingers; Belca stares at them for a split second, then scowls and tries not to let the infuriating bard notice his hands slipping to find the familiar ribbon that Eco always wore.

"What did you do?"

"I was mending some tears and I kept poking sticking myself."

Eco is the least manliest man Belca has ever seen, he's sure of it; he lets himself smirk when Eco makes a surprised sound between a purr and a gasp (and he doesn't want to know about either of them) as he pulls the light hair up and through his fingers. Once, twice; he carefully loops the ribbon around the fistful of hair he has carefully clenched in his hands, then down and across one of the ends go; he pulls it tight, just enough to test then tighter, to hold. A loop for one of the bunny ears of the bow; another loop around and pull through, and it resembles the ones Eco makes himself, if the ones Eco did were as sloppy as a seven year old's work.

"It's been so long since I had someone do my hair for me~ Even if it is a little bit sloppy!"

"If you're going to complain about it, do it yourself."

Eco takes no notice of Belca's apparently disgruntled mood - or pretends not to - and stands up to run his fingers through the thicker, dark hair, much to the prince's embarrassment and dismay. He sighs, almost disappointedly, as every time he tries to bring it up more than a few inches it slips from his fingertips and falls back into its place.

"If only your hair was a little longer! Then we could have matching ribbons~"

Before Belca can raise an argument to that, Eco presses a finger to his lips and ties one of the ribbons around the prince's wrist; he smiles, and lets Belca's easy-to-fluster nature take over the silence.
