Title: Shakes
Characters: Soul, Maka
Rating: G
For Sky. The prompt was "nightmare".
The bed creaking is what wakes him up; he peeks an eye open to see Maka slipping in beside him, slightly pale and shaking. Worry immediately wakes him and he reaches for her, stopping short when she gasps and holds her mouth. A beat, and he slowly sits up and puts a hand on her shoulder.
"You okay?"
She immediately relaxes into his touch and nods, letting her hand drop and grip the sheets. He nudges her closer with the hand on her shoulder, and she falls beside him, curls to his side and breathes in deeply, too sharply.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"It was nothing. Just a dream."
He grunts in response and twists her hair in his fingers; she sighs, closes her eyes, and wraps her arms around his waist. Soul waits until she's asleep - the peaceful rise and fall of her chest against his leg gives it away - to gently pull her up so their faces are at the same height. He knows if he looked over, she'd be right there with the dim light that naturally inhabitated the room, and he could see the countours of her face in the dark; he knows he if looked over, she'd be close enough to kiss.
She shakes, suddenly, and he wraps his arms around her automatically; the shakes cease, and his name floats on a breath she expels against his neck.
