Title: red eyes at morning, sailors taking warning
Characters: Soul, Maka
Rating: G

For Sky. I know it's not much, but it's all I can do. Get better soon, bro. You throw off my game by being ill.

Despite the fact his eyes might be the second most noticeable thing about him, Maka doesn't notice them until their third week of being partners. It's after three hours of spinning, slicing, and resonating that leaves her on the ground, flushed from exertion, that she notices. She catches herself staring and making comparisons when he looks over to give her a bottle of water as she sits up. She takes it gladly, unscrews the cap, and takes a good, long drink.

"Thanks."

He shrugs and takes it from her, pointedly ignoring her glower and chugging the rest. She purses her lips, scoots closer, and stares him down. He stares right back, then smirks and teases her.

"I know I'm hot, Maka, but you don't have to stare."

Snort.

"Like there's anything to stare at?"

"That's my line, tiny tits."

"-- What did you just call me?"

He laughs and rolls out of the way when she tries to grab him, and tense up when she pins him down. Soul scowls; she sees his eyes again, and the thought processes start ticking.

(Blood. Strawberries. Seven stripes. Battle. Demon.)

He catches her staring again - how can he not? - but this time he's pretty sure what she's looking at.

"They're natural. Get off."

"Do they run in your family?"

"Don't know, don't care. Off."

As soon as she gets off of him, he sits up, runs a hand through his hair, and bares his teeth at her. She stares, snickers, and reaches out to pull back his top lip.

"You have shark teeth."
