Title: to the rhythm to the rhythm
Characters: Mettaton, Sigrun Eide
Rating: g
His girlfriend may in fact be the most entertaining person in the world to watch (after himself, of course). Mettaton leans on his hand, listening to her grumbles and grunts as she taps rings on the device Black had gifted her last Christmas. It'd taken her a while to get around to actually using the damn thing; the lack-of internet in her own world had helped with that, but The Hub left her with no excuses to avoid the bit of technology in her hands.
He raises his eyebrows when she swears again and tosses the tablet aside; it thankfully lands on the couch and does not bounce off onto the floor, where it would have definitely broke, oh my god. He's about to ask her what's wrong when she huffs, slumping back into the cushions, and stares at her hands like they've betrayed her.
"I can't win," she whines. Ah, so maybe they have. Mettaton settles an arm around her shoulders, drawing her closer; Sigrun leans against him, thick coat keeping her from being too uncomfortable, and sighs. "I thought it'd be easy—like, kitten can do it? And if kitten can do it I totally can too, right? But it's really, really hard."
"Kitten learned from Yosuke," he replies smoothly, "and that's the only song he can 'win' at. Why don't you take a break, darling?"
As fun as it'd been to see her getting frustrated, he likes the way her face relaxes when she sighs again—resigned this time instead of irritated. He lets her rest on him for a moment, content with this much, before he realizes he's looking more and more at the tablet she'd tossed aside. He reaches for it, smiling at the glare she gives it as it passes in front of her, and sets it in his lap. A few taps later and he's back on the splash page of some—idol game, he assumes. The girls are cute, but they remind him of Alphys' shows, and he moves on through menus and single covers before he can linger on the thought for too long.
At long last, he finds the one Sigrun'd been having trouble on: Loveless World. It's a rather pleasing song musically, even if the lyrics translate into something less pleasant overall; it's also rather fast, and he spends several of these 'love gems' to work himself into a rhythm he can manage.
He full combos it, of course, five tries later. Sigrun between him and the tablet, pouting, and turns away muttering about how it wasn't even that fun anyway when he shows her.
