Title: 04. house of mirrors
Characters: F. Mage, M. Mage, Kate
Rating: G

160/365.

The house is small and cramped, but maybe that's what makes it perfect to be a makeshift fun house. They stand at the door together, casting shadows from the incredibly bright magic-made park behind them. She grins and nudges his side with her elbow, waggling her eyebrows when he looks down at her.

"You scared to go in?"

"Ladies first."

She mocks him with a curtsy and steps in, looking back to make sure he's following her before she continues on. As soon as both of them are inside, the door creaks shut; she spares a glance for it, too, leaving him to chuckle and repeat the question she had asked only moments earlier.

"Gentlemen clear the way," is her answer, and he steps in front of her; his vision's better than hers when it comes to the dark anyway, and he picks out the vague shapes of mannequin heads and mirrors.

The lights flash on and she screams, grabbing his arm. She lets go as soon as he starts laughing, embarrassed, and shoves him into the head's stand.

It laughs, too, and she feels the blood drain out of her face. She takes his hand with little shame, looking around to take inventory of the first room and the path to the next one. It's a maze of sorts - of creepy-looking dolls and obvious traps - and they make their way without conflict, pausing to look in the mirrors and snicker over each other's exaggerated reflections.

The second and third rooms are much the same, and Kate admits over tea and eggs that she isn't much for scares. Kasijas had decided it was beneath him to take part in helping her with anything but setting up what she had planned as well. The two youngest mages share a look; she starts to giggle into her cup, leaving him to reassure Kate that it was fun, and isn't that what that sort of thing was supposed to be?
