Title: 03. calendar day
Characters: Kate, F. Mage
Rating: G
159/365.
Kate finds her looking over an old calendar, counting the days and frowning when she turns to the one she's making. She's trying to make it match what the year would be now, she knows, but it's harder than it seems. You have to account for leap years, something she evidently hasn't done yet, and Kate laughs as she mentions it -- and at the crestfallen, then angry, expression of her companion.
"It's all right, don't worry." Her soothing has no effect; the young mage still looks troubled, and Kate sighs as she smooths her hair back. "Why do you want to make a calendar so badly?"
"So I can tell when our anniversary's gonna be. I mean, we've been friends for a while, right? We should do something special! Oh, and birthdays! And Halloween, I guess? And maybe..."
Kate half-listens as she prattles on with the old holidays they used to celebrate, when people still lived (if barely) on Pandemonium. She hadn't considered the possibility of an anniversary - or a birthday, or any holidays - and it makes her smile to hear her young friend's plans. The enthusiasm of the young hadn't faded, despite the circumstances of the three lands.
"...and when that dumb warlock gets back here we could get him to give us chocolates on Valentine's Day-- That's what they did, right?"
"Yes." Kate reaches for her companion's pen and fixes her math. "It was a lot of fun."
"I bet you got a lot, huh?"
She doesn't reply, but smiles; it's enough to send the other into a fit of giggles - Kate doesn't know if she should be offended or flattered, because of it - and she helps her with marking out the rest of the days, doing her best to remember the infrequent holidays that had filled the world with so much cheer.
