Title: and it all will turn to black
Characters: Zulf, mentions of the Kid and Zulf's fiancée

He’s going to die, alone and in the stars; he can feel it. He hears the yells and shouts of defeated Uras from around him, but they’re muffled and distanced by the pounding of his heart in his ears and the raggedness of his breath as he struggles to breathe. It isn’t so cold, with the warmth of his blood beginning to spread under him, although it chills as quick as it comes out. It’s the little things he notices before he hears the crunch of boots on snow and wonders if whoever’s beaten the guards has come to finish him off, too, but after a moment the boots crucnh away and he forces his eyes to open. He isn’t surprised to see it’s the Kid - he’d gone after the rest of the shards after all; why not this one? - but he feels a twinge of anger and sorrow at being left behind.
But he doesn’t blame the Kid; it’s what he deserves, after all, and both his family and the love of his life is waiting for him just beyond the glittering stars.
