Spada sees himself in the young woman he proudly calls his daughter; she's honorable and loyal, sticking up for the weak and holding to the pillars as tightly as he does. He sees his faults, too - fighting a battle that should've died with the passing day; throwing up a guard and being friendly, but not too friendly; falling in love with her best friend and marrying a better match - and he wonders where her mother is in her. The answer is obvious; she has her mother's hair and her mother's face, her mother's figure and her mother's intuition, her mother's personality and her mother's stubbornness. Her mother's graceful steps disappear with sword training; her mother's beautiful hands hide under callouses from the hilt of a blade; her mother's full, moist lips crack and split despite the tongue that glides over them every few minutes to try and keep them wet.
