Title: starry earth
Characters: Spada Belforma, Luca Milda
Rating: G
30/365.
One night, Luca finds Spada laying down and looking at the stars; it makes him smile a little, thinking of their conversation, and he settles beside him, drawing his knees up to his chest and looking up at the dark sky. Out of the corner of his eye he sees Spada give him a quick look over, and he smiles a little wider. It's quiet, except for the soft hums and songs of crickets and junebugs, but it's comfortable. It's something he rarely experiences with people and he lets himself soak in it, exhale softly and close his eyes. They slide back open when Spada sits up and props his chin on a knee, staring at the stars with a small frown. Luca shifts closer, just enough to nudge his shoulder lightly, and twists his fingers into the grass.
“I'm glad there aren't any clouds tonight,” is how he breaks the silence; talking feels hostile, but there's only so long either of them can go without talking, and he continues on after a pause of reflection. “It's nice to be able to see the stars.”
They're closer to towns than they were before, and there aren't as many stars to be seen because of it, but Spada shrugs anyway. His look's a little questioning – why bring up the stars again? - and Luca shivers under it a little, starting to pull roots and dirt out of the ground, digging a little hole with his fingers.
“I was just thinking, um... when our journey's over -” when, not if, because everything good comes to an end sometime and while there's been both good and bad Luca can definitely say stepping out of Regnum and meeting the people he loved now was a good thing, “- then we'll probably all be in different places again, right? I mean, Iria'll probably go home, and Ange'll go back to Naos... You, Her, and I will be in Regnum, and I'm... not really sure where Ricardo will be since he's never said whether or not he has a home to go back to... And the stars could be a way for us to stay together, sort of, or something like that. Since we'd all be looking up at them, and -” Luca blushes a little, because Spada's turned his full attention on him and he's just realizing how stupid and embarrassing this all sounds, “- a-and so, uh, it'd kind of be like we were... together still...”
Spada doesn't reply; he just stares at him and Luca fidgets a little, fighting the urge to brush off the words and say it was stupid to say. He starts to do just that when Spada shifts and reclines on his elbows, staring at the sky again.
“Yeah, sure, I guess.” He hasn't thought much about after; he's still trying to keep on top of now and before and all. Luca's smile returns a little and he loosens up a little, stretching out his legs and propping himself up on his hands.
“I'm glad.” It's said on an exhale, soft and relieved and happy, and Luca digs his fingers into the ground a little. “You think it's stupid though, don't you.”
It isn't a question and Spada doesn't treat it like one; he doesn't answer because the statement's answer enough and they both know it. Luca's smile doesn't fade though, not a bit.
“Your watch is over, by the way. Um... I'm next, so you go to sleep, all right?”
Spada nods and gets up, rolling his shoulders and yawning, “Night, Luca. Scream if anythin' comes by.”
“It won't come to that, I assure you. Sweet dreams, Spada.”
It feels a little odd to get told that (he hasn't heard it in years) but he shrugs it off and makes his way over to his tent for a little shut-eye; Luca watches his retreating back, then looks at the stars and knows he'll be wishing on falling stars for Spada for a long while.
