Title: first mission
Characters: Agent York, Agent Carolina, Agent Washington
Rating: G

23/365 i guess

The first time he sees her is the day they get assigned their agent names; she's beautiful and petite, in her light blue armor, but he has a feeling he'd be wrong to cross her or demean her in any way. She's beautiful, but there's an air of danger about her (something serious, something competitive) and it makes a smirk pull at his lips. She must see it, too, since a similar one tugs at the very ends of hers. She leaves before he can call her out, and the next time they meet is on a mission.

Missions are no times for introductions, but it's a better time than none, and when they're waiting on a signal he decides to use his time wisely.

"This is your first mission, right? Mine too."

She doesn't respond and York eases his grip on his gun, leaning back on the wall beside her. He doesn't jump when she cocks her gun and readies her finger, reading the outputs on her helmet to herself and shooting back a command at him.

"Fifteen seconds."

York hefts the gun, shakes his head, and readies himself. She's a born leader; he can tell by the way she doesn't even shrink from giving orders or moving them out on her own when the time for the signal comes and passes. It's on her mark that the mission's a success - some stupid, regular retrieval mission that he can't remember after a few years or a few celebratory drinks - and he has to get her name from his roommate who (for reasons unknown to him, although the guy's a friendly enough fellow) is on better terms with her than he is.

Carolina isn't a name he forgets easily - it isn't her real name, of course (who knew each other's real names in Project Freelancer, anyway?) but it's name enough. It's only a matter of time, he's sure, that his charm'll sweep her off his feet; saying it out loud elicits a laugh from Washington, who doesn't particularly enjoy the bruise he gets from a standard issue training manual that both of them have skimmed a hundred times but can't remember a word of, despite being able to feel the actions and protocols in their bones and their blood.
