He's walking through the streets. It's dark; not even the streetlamps are on, flickering as they usually would, and he's closer to the ground than he remembers being. He catches a young face in a window, then wonders which memory this is.

There's a fire at the end of the street and - despite it only being a dream - he starts to run, his legs pumping the same way they had almost seven years ago. He pushes through the small crowd that had gathered and stops at the edge, watching the flames lick the walls and feeling sicker with every whisper around him.

"Did anyone live there?"

"I don't think so..."

"There was a lovely young mother who did... She had a son-- what was his name again? I think it was..."

He steps back until he's out of the crowd again, slinking into an alleyway and feeling his way down it with his fingers.

And then, he falls. Not to his knees, but almost as if the alley had stopped. Colors - memories - flash by him in blurs -- from times with his mother, to times with his gang, to waking up on Arad and finding that he wasn't as alone as he thought he was -- until he lands in a thick, murky water. He draws himself up, watching the mud drip from his fingers, and hides the hole in his chest with his hand.

"Why?" The voices rings; he tries not to focus on the face hovering hundreds of feet in front of him. "It is my will!"

A steady stream of light shoots towards him, and before it can pierce through him he awakes; the room is dark, and he almost wonders if he's within another dream when someone beside him stirs and presses their face against his side. He doesn't relax - it's hard to, even after all this time - but squeezes his arm under her and draws her closer, resting his chin on top of her head and trying to forget the things his mind so desperately wanted him to remember.
